Our Approach to Sedation Dentistry
When you first meet with Dr. Brandner to discuss your treatment options, he will be sure to address your sedation options. Dr. Brandner is passionate about making patients feel fully confident in their treatment. He is happy to help you choose a sedation method based on your procedure, anxiety level, and overall preference.
The standard option for our patients is IV sedation, which we can safely administer here in the office. We can also provide general anesthesia at the local hospital for patients who do not tolerate an IV or need an even greater level of sedation.
The Benefits of Sedation Dentistry
The most obvious benefit of oral sedation is that it allows you to have your procedure completed without experiencing any pain or discomfort. However, there are a number of other benefits that our patients can anticipate.
- Relief from dental anxiety. We understand that some patients may feel concerned about their trip to the oral surgeon’s office. One of the most significant benefits of sedation is that it can help alleviate that anxiety, allowing you to feel greater peace of mind about your procedure.
- A less demanding procedure. Depending on the specific procedure, your oral surgery may take anywhere from 45 minutes to a full four hours. Sedation helps you sleep through the whole thing, meaning that even an especially long procedure will pass fairly quickly.
- No memories or flashbacks. We hear from some patients who want to make sure they will not remember anything about the procedure itself. Sedation dentistry can help you ensure that you do not have any unwanted memories or flashbacks triggered.
